Intimate Lightening Treatment
If you’ve had laser hair removal treatment in an intimate area such as bikini, Brazilian or underarms, you may find that skin is darker in the these areas than on other areas of the body. The skin in these areas is typically hormone sensitive and sometimes prone to hyperpigmentation as a result. While this darker skin is entirely normal, some individuals prefer to lighten the skin.
If lightening in an intimate area is something you’re interested in, it’s important to take care and use products that are specifically formulated for that. Such products should also be Health Canada approved to be certain they have been thoroughly assessed for safety and efficacy.

Me-Line products contain tranexamic acid, a highly effective active ingredient for fading pigment and preventing the formation of new pigment. Tranexamic acid is also safe and extremely well tolerated.
Treatment at-home with Me-Line is gradual and gentle. Lightening will be gradual over the course of several months. When treating moderate/dark pigmentation or when faster results are desired, it is recommended to have a professional level in-clinic series of 3-5 treatments which can be maintained using Me-Line at-home treatment thereafter.

Many products available in the market have non-pharmaceutical plant-based ingredients and these products may be useful for prevention and maintenance. But for treatment of tough pigmentation issues such injury-based hyperpigmentation, melasma and hormonal pigment, professional level in-clinic treatment with pharmaceutical grade products and follow-up products for home use are typically required.
Intimate lightening, such as peri-anal, genital area and underarms requires a pharmaceutical product suitably and safely formulated to treat these more sensitive areas. The Me-Line Intimate line of products meets ArtMed’s exacting standards for safe and effective treatment.
Me-Line Intimate Professional is applied in-clinic by medical aestheticians who have been industry trained in its use. Typically, a minimum of 3 treatments are required for lightening of hyperpigmentation. An additional 2 treatments may be undertaken to further results if desired.
Health Canada approved Me-Line contains mandelic acid, tranexamic acid, lactobionic acid, salicylic acid, retinal, and sodium hyaluronate. This combination of ingredients provides both depigmentation and antioxidant activity, effectively reducing hyperpigmentation in intimate areas.

The skin in these areas is typically hormone sensitive and darker pigmentation in the area is common. While this darker skin is entirely normal, some individuals prefer to lighten the skin to reduce the contrast with surrounding skin areas.

Because the pigment in these areas is hormonal, you cannot use common laser procedures such as IPL or BBL to remove pigment. Products containing hydroquinone are also not recommended in these intimate areas. Fortunately, there are safe products for use to reduce pigment. There are products for use at home which are gentle but take a long time to effect change, and professional products applied in clinic which are stronger and more immediately effective.

Me-Line Intimate offers two lines of intimate lightening care. Their at-home products contain plant-based lightening agents which can be applied in the privacy of your home. Topical application is done using their roller ball applicator. Because this product is all natural and gentle results are slower in onset but side effects are minimal. Regular use is required to maintain results.
Me-Line Professional is a stronger product containing various acids and depigmenting agents. It is applied in clinic by an aesthetician. Much like a chemical peel applied in clinic, the skin may be flakey and sensitive for 3-5 days after treatment. Me-Line home products are used in follow-up starting day 5 to continue the depigmenting process. A series of 3-6 treatments is recommended depending on response.

For the in-clinic professional treatment which contains pharmaceutical level active ingredients the contraindications to use are:
•Recent Sunburn or Excessive Sun Exposure
•History of Herpes simplex
•Current Herpes simplex virus infection
•Treated with oral isotretinoin (Accutane) currently or within the last 6 months.
•Received medium or deep peels within the last 6 months.
•Taking sun-sensitizing medications or natural remedies (incl. St. John’s Wort)
•Allergy to any peel ingredient or aspirin (originates from salix alba plant)
•Presence of broken skin, open wounds, sunburn, skin infection
•chemotherapy, biologics (for autoimmune disease),and/or radiation therapy in the past 6 months or actively
•Active autoimmune disease or Immunodeficiency
•Presence of inflammatory acne (moderate to severe)
•Family or personal history of keloid formation
